To collect, store, and provide human brain tissue and cerebrospinal fluid samples for research on disorders related to geriatric medicine. To understand the cause and mechanisms of neurodegeneration in brain disorders using the research resources.

Human tissue samples obtained from autopsies based on informed consent are important resources for medical research. We manage a brain bank, which is a bank of human tissue samples for brain research, and provide the@tissue resources for researchers, whose research has been approved by the National Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology (NCGG) review board.
Using the tissue resources in the brain bank, we independently conduct research studies that increase understanding of the mechanisms of neurodegeneration in brain disorders due to aging.
In our study, we target hereditary and nonhereditary neurodegenerative disorders, currently focusing on spinocerebellar degeneration. To develop new treatments, we generate cell and animal models, thereby examine human brain tissue and cerebrospinal fluid samples directly.
