To biologically investigate the chewing functions of the oral cavity, essential in maintaining sound nutritional conditions, to promote the prevention/treatment of oral/dental disorders. Reviews and reconstructs the etiology of periodontal disease, which has both aspects of age-related and lifestyle-related disorders, to develop new treatment for periodontal disease based on the new etiology. Develops new treatment for dental caries in which dental pulp (dental nerve) stem cells (cells with an ability to differentiate into various kinds of cells) are used to regenerate teeth and the pulp. Analyzes the effects of oral bacteria and their products on the development and exacerbation of periodontal disease from the viewpoint of molecular biology, and investigates their mechanisms of action. more details back to index
